PERCEIVED LEADERSHIP AND JOB PERFORMANCE OF OSUN STATE CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION IN OSUN STATE NIGERIA

The utmost desire of organisations today is to see their employees performing greatly on the job for this to
manifest the style of leadership must be taking into consideration. However, this study was carried out to
investigate the influence of perceived leadership styles on job performance in Osun State Civil Service
Commission in Osun State, Nigeria. The specific objective of the study was to investigate democratic,
autocratic and laissez-faire leadership styles on Job performance. The data for the study was collected
using structured questionnaire. Total sampling techniques was used to capture respondents for the study
in which fifty-six (56) employees of Osun State Civil Service Commission participated in the study.
Descriptive and inferential statistics was used to analyse the data collected. The result of the study revealed
that democratic, autocratic and laissez-faire leadership styles significantly influenced employees’ job
performance (0.094 F (1,55) = 5.571p < 0.05; 0.347 F (1,55) = 28.632 p < 0.05 and 0.112 F (1,55) = 6.830 (p <
0.05). The study concluded that effective leadership is required for high and productive performance it was
recommended that for higher level of performance collective knowledge and ideas of the workforce need
to be considered.
