IMPACT OF MEDIA ON THE PERFORMANCE OF HEALTH INSURANCE SCHEME IN OGUN STATE: STUDY OF LOW-INCOME EARNERS IN ABEOKUTA

This study examined “impact of media on the performance of health insurance scheme in Ogun state: study of low-income earners in Abeokuta.” This study employed survey method and questionnaire as its instrument four hundred (400) questionnaires were administered to gather the required data from the respondents. It reviewed relevant concepts theoretical framework. The study adopted four hundred sample size and used simple random sampling to draw the sample population. It also used simple percentage with frequency table as method of analysis. It was discovered that maternal health related programme on broadcast media television and radio do influence policy made for maternal health care in the country. Media is a powerful instrument for bringing change and making things happen it is the cumulated opinion of expert, citizens in the media that are used as policy formulation in Nigeria. More so broadcast media that is radio, has to a large extent addressed the maternal health needs of Nigeria such programmes are ifetosomobibi, what mothers should do when pregnant, drugs they need to take. It conclude that the broadcast media and development of the society. It has contributed in no small measure to dissemination of maternal health policies to Nigerians. In view of the findings, this study recommends that broadcast media should be more proactive about issues of maternal health. Exposure to mass media provides an increased awareness and knowledge, as well as changes in attitudes, social norms and behavior that may lead to positive public health outcome and the mass media should pay more attention to the under-reported issues of maternal health in order to not only inform the public about it but also deepen analyses and interpretation for citizens use.
